I-Day: PM announces to increase ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendras’ from 10,000 to 25,000

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has plans to increase the number of ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendras’ from 10,000 to 25,000.

He said Jan Aushadhi Kendras have given a new power to the people, especially the middle class. If someone is diagnosed with diabetes then a monthly bill of Rs. 3000 get accrued.

Further, he said that through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the medicines that cost Rs 100, we are giving it at Rs 10 to Rs 15.

He said the government is working to increase the number of ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ (subsidised medicine shops) from 10,000 to 25,000.

Jan Aushadhi Kendras’ have been set up for making affordable generic medicines available for all.

With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India in November, 2008. As on 31st January, 2023, the numbers of stores have increased to 9082. Under the PMBJP, 743 districts out of 764 districts of the country have been covered.
